5 More Social Media Fails That Will Baffle You

January 29, 2015SOCIAL MEDIA, TWITTER

When you make a social media post for a company that’s going to be broadcasted to thousands of people, it’s best to read, re-read, and edit the post, just to make sure everything looks right and no backlash will arise.

These companies did not, and now they are immortalized in the social media hall of fame for poor decisions and judgment.

1. The Minnesota Timberwolves’ definition of fun is a little different from yours.

We’ll give the Minnesota Timberwolves the benefit of the doubt in that this was tweet had the right intentions. Unfortunately, the execution was poor to the extent that it made the organization sound as if a fun afternoon was children having life-threatening or chronic medical conditions.

We get what you’re going for, Timberwolves PR team, but you might want to re-read that next tweet you send.

2. David & Busters, having fun with racism!

Hey, you know what never works on social media? Jokes that dabble in race!

If you’re running a social media, just stop and think to yourself: “This may be offensive to some people. Should I post it?”

The answer is obvious: If you have to ask, it probably is.

3. Jim Rome Bashes Band Nerds

YEAH, BRO, YOU TELL THOSE NERDS *slams a Natural Ice in 10 seconds* HAHA, GEEKS AND THEIR INSTRUMENTS THINK THEY’RE SO COOL BECAUSE THEY LEARNED A REDEEMING SKILL AND JOINED A CLUB WITH PEOPLE THEY CAN MAKE LIFELONG FRIENDS WITH *slams another Natty Ice*.

For those who don’t know, Jim Rome is a ‘journalist’ and ESPN personality whose job it is to boost the already bloated and inflated egos of athletes. He also once got embarrassed on national television when an athlete knocked him down on his own show for, essentially, doing the same thing he’s doing here.

4. A trio of Martin Luther King, Jr. fails

WHY

You would think posting a quote from Martin Luther King, Jr. on a background with his face on it would be simple, but apparently not.

Let’s start with Krazy Glue. Don’t use one of the world’s most inspirational figures to shill your product.

Madonna? Her Instagram followers did the job for us.

The Seattle Seahawks equating their struggle to that of a struggle that eventually cost MLK his life? That’s just in poor taste.

5. Bill Cosby’s Twitter Team Does not Have its Pulse on Social Media

One fateful Twitter afternoon, someone at the Bill Cosby Twitter team thought the only way to resurrect the damaged image of the former star from the ‘Cosby Show’ was to ask Twitter uses to ‘Meme him’.

It all started with this:

It resulted in this:

It seems impossible that the only people who thought this wouldn’t go wrong were Cosby’s Twitter team, yet here we are.

Like what you just read?
There’s more where that came from.
